Serious Fun Times

Life is serious business. Or so we think. You can’t live your life and be a balanced person always worrying about your job or schoolwork. Worrying causes stress. Stress is bad and can result in quick-to-anger attitudes in some people, and too much stress can even lead to an early death. A lot of people need to learn to balance work and fun to reduce stress. Why take life so seriously, not like we get out of it alive anyway, right?

Now, I don't follow this myself. Under my tough exterior, I'm actually quite sensitive. My family will sometimes pick on me, and because I have a difficult time showing certain emotions, I tend to just hold it all in and coop myself up in my room. I'm something of a perfectionist as well, so I'm very dedicated to my work. I take school seriously because I want to get places and I want to be destined for great things, even if they're only great to one person. But this thinking also has it's negative points. I take my work so seriously that I don't let myself have any fun, and I don't get out at all.

Although aside from all of the things I could complain about in my home and about my grades, I have a couple things I enjoy doing to relieve stress for myself at home. I have my flute, drawing, singing, playing video games and reading to entertain myself with. And not to mention my three best friends Athena, Mary and Devin. They're the most fun I could ever wish for and I love them. Sadly, I don't get to hang out with them much. They're busy, or I'm busy fretting over something stupid.

Other people may have problems similar to mine, or worse, or they might just be really serious people who only concentrate on their jobs. But really, some of us, including myself and maybe even you, need to even out the work and the fun. It’s important, I think, because, really, who wants to live without having fun? We only live once, so why not make the most of it? Go places, learn something new, meet new people, try new things, treat yourself, but at the same time concentrate enough on jobs and school to support yourself, get where you want to go and do what you want to do.

…Heh, I should take my own advice, yeah?
